I Am Muslim

Currently, i am reading this. The title may suggest that it is a religious book. However, the articles written are not simply about Islam per se, but about the realities of religious life as seen and lived by Muslims themselves.

Being a Muslim in Malaysia today, the author captured the multifaceted aspects of difference and alterity in normative religious life better than many academic studies on the subject. In these vignettes, she captures the ironies, foibles and follies of ordinary muslims who have tried to find meaning and focus in their lives, albeit in an ever-changing world where tastes and trends as dictated by the media as much as the realities of geo-politics. She captures their all-too-human condition in a manner that is sympathetic and endearing.
I Am Muslim is a selfish journey of faith. Dina, the author, meets shaman(bomoh), nationalists, moderates and gets into all sorts of scrapes, to discover what Islam means to Muslims in Malaysia. Heartbreaking, angry and downright funny.

This book promises to be a rollickin' read. Then again, i'd say this book is a mature read for ADULTS who have grown up in the real world. It might pose as a 'danger' to the faith of the younger ones should they read this book if their religious foundation is anything but strong.

Go on, grab one since it is a good read for adults.
