Experience of A Lifetime
I have so many pics to share of my experiences during the orientation.
We, the Singapore students were placed in the International College as we were international students. It is the first of its kind in Malaysia.
So it was a great experience meeting and mingling with beautiful people from all around the globe.
An eye opener, a cultural exchange.
No doubt it was a back breaking, exhausting and tiring experience due to the daily morning & evening activities/sports, cheer drilling sessions, long walk to and from the faculty and many more.
We felt like inmates locked in a cell.
Weren't allowed to leave the college and it was compulsory for us to stay for a week.
Missed the husband like crazy bt he was smart enuff to sneak in and run away with me like a couple of times but he sent me back before reporting time the next morning.hehe...
Aida was my bunkmate. The mattress provided was 'mapped' so we decided to sleep on the floor with a sleeping bag Aida had brought along. Smart girl, she had contingency plans. We shared the small space on the hard, concrete floor. It was torturous. But somehow, we got used to sleeping on the floor, showering with the not so clear water, stripping half naked in the presence of the other, handwashing our garments, eating the tasteless food, waking up early, sleeping late and my fave is the pocho dance.
Each day, we were allowed to sleep at 2-3 am after a cheer drilling session provided we do it well and up to their expectation. And we had to report at 7am and some days at 6.30am. They robbed us of our sleep mercilessly.
Somehow, at the end of the day, we learnt many valuable lessons along the way despite the culture shock.
It wasn't that bad afterall.
Gained alot of experiences and made many new friends from different races, cultures and origin.
We learnt to tolerate people of different cultures and appreciate each one as unique individuals.
It then became bearable.
Overall, it was a good learning process. We had joy, we had fun despite many unpleasant moments and incidences. We forged many friendships which will last a lifetime, Insyallah.
For the record, i met people from Brunei, Indonesia, Myanmar, Maldives, Thailand, Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Trinidad, Beijing, Austria and many more.
Strange huh?
The world is huge but we met in one place called Ungku Aziz Residential College (KUAZ).
